Graduate Nurse and Midwifery Program Wonthaggi, San Remo & Phillip Island 2027

Bayside Health Regional Graduate Nurse and Midwifery Program is a unique program giving first year Registered Nurses exposure to a diverse range of clinical experiences within a rural health service 

The Graduate Nurse and Midwifery Program here at Bayside Health on the Bass Coast is well established and accepts smaller group sizes which allows for a more direct, personal approach in helping you achieve your professional learning goals. 

The aim of the Graduate Nurse Program is to support nursing graduates on the transition from Student Nurse to Graduate Nurse. 

The program aims to assist in consolidating and further developing knowledge, skills and competence in a supported environment. The program aims to assist Graduate Nurses to practice as safe, confident and accountable health professionals. 

Bayside Health Wonthaggi Hospital, San Remo Community Centre and Philip Island Community Hospital currently offer: 

- Registered Nurse Graduate programs with two intakes per year occurring in February and April.  

- Registered Nurse / Midwifery Graduate programs with one intake per year in February. 

Graduate Nurse programs are for the duration of 12 months 0.8 EFT and which may include potential rotations across a variety of departments at Wonthaggi, Phillip Island and San Remo sites (two rotations per program). 

Graduate programs are currently offered in the following clinical areas:

  • Emergency
  • Perioperative
  • Sub-Acute
  • Medical
  • Aged Care
  • District nursing
  • Haemodialysis
  • Surgical ward

Graduate Nurses are provided with ongoing support from the Graduate Coordinator and Clinical Support Nurses within the Learning and Development team based at Wonthaggi and San Remo in conjunction with the clinical staff they work with.

Included within the 12-month program are four paid study days, enabling the development and consolidation of current and additional skills, as well as exposure to other areas within the Health Service.

Applications to the Graduate Nurse / Midwifery program at Bayside Health are made through Seek in addition to the PMCV (Postgraduate Medical Council of Victoria) Allocation and Placement Service.
