What we do
Geriatric Medicine is the medical specialty focused on the health, assessment and care of older adults, particularly those with multiple conditions, frailty, cognitive changes or complex care needs.
Our team of Geriatricians take a holistic approach to caring for older people, looking at each health issue and how they interact with each other, to ensure the best care and treatment for our patients.
Who we care for
We care for and treat people with:
- Complex medical issues and multiple morbidities
- Cognitive decline
- Falls – Impaired Mobility and Balance
- Diagnosis of Cancer or malignant haematology – for Geriatrician input only for diagnosis
Exclusions
The following conditions/procedures are not routinely seen at Bayside Health Wonthaggi & Phillip Island:
- Capacity assessments
- Anyone residing in residential aged care
- Those younger than 65 years or 50 years for Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islanders
- Patients attending a Medical Day unit procedure without a cancer and malignant haematology diagnosis.
