Cardiac rehabilitation

The Cardiac Rehabilitation program provides exercise and education for clients who have experienced a cardiac event

What we do

It is an eight-week program conducted by a multi-disciplinary team to help clients to reach their goals.

Our comprehensive Cardiac Rehabilitation Program offers:

  • Supervised exercise
  • Education
  • Lifestyle management

There are no geographical boundaries and there is no fee to attend. We are able to organise interpreter services where necessary.

Entry into the program is prioritised according to requirements, such as the need to return to work.

Who we care for

We specialise in managing people with:

  • Coronary artery disease
  • Heart failure and other conditions
  • Who have had cardiac procedures
  • SCAD
  • Cardiac/valvular surgery, and
  • Associated risk factor modification needs

How to access this service

Referral to this service can be made by a self-referral, general practitioner (GP), another medical specialist or a healthcare professional.

What to bring with you

Every time you come:

  • Medicare card
  • Health Care Card and/or concession card (if you have one)
  • Private health insurance card (if applicable/if you want to use it)
  • Adverse drug alert card (if you have one)
  • Previous X-ray films, scans, ultrasounds or any other test results or reports
  • Medicines you need to take while you are here
  • List of medicines you are currently taking (or the boxes), including medicines you have bought without a prescription, such as herbal supplements and vitamins
  • Glasses, hearing aid(s) and/or walking frame if needed

Bringing these items helps us give you the best care possible and ensures your visit goes smoothly.

What to wear for rehabilitation or exercise classes: 

  • Comfortable day clothes, such as a tracksuit
  • Well-fitting, closed-toe styled shoes with firm grip soles. Do not wear open back, slip-on slippers 
  • A full water bottle
  • Medicines you need to take while you are here. 

Where: Allied Health Building @ Wonthaggi Hospital for admission appointment. Exercise classes are held at Bass Coast Leisure Centre, Wonthaggi.
