Our hospital pharmacists work alongside your doctors and nurses to make sure you get the right medications, safely, throughout your hospital stay.

Here's how we help keep you safe:

• We make sure you get the correct medication, in the correct dose, at the correct time. 
• We are happy to explain your medications to you and your family.
• We keep your regular community pharmacist informed of any changes to your medications, so everything stays consistent after you leave hospital.

What medications should I bring with me?

Please bring all your medications with you when you come to hospital. This includes:

• Prescription medications
• Anything you've bought from a pharmacy, chemist, supermarket, or health food store
• Vitamins, supplements, herbal or "alternative" remedies

It's important for your pharmacist to see everything you're taking, so we can check for interactions and make sure your treatment continues smoothly.

Will I have to pay for my medications?

During your stay: No, medications you receive as an inpatient are provided at no cost to you.

When you go home: Your doctor may give you a prescription. You can have this filled by the hospital pharmacy or take it to your usual community pharmacy, whichever suits you best.

Cost of discharge medications: If you get your prescription filled at the hospital pharmacy, you'll pay the same standard co-payment you would at any community pharmacy. Any amount you pay even for medications not covered by the Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme (PBS) will count towards your PBS Safety Net threshold.
