What we do
This program is offered through Bayside Health Regional - Social Support Program. Each exercise session is led by a qualified Healthy Aging Fitness Instructor with assistance and support from Allied Health Assistants. Classes are held in Leongatha, Korumburra and Mirboo North.
Types of activities
The HAPI program is a low impact exercise group accompanied by a musical playlist. There are two program levels - chair based or active weight bearing, which aim to improve strength, flexibility and balance in participants. Activities can include use of hand weights, balance discs, small/medium sized balls and resistance bands.
Benefits include:
- Improved general fitness and exercise tolerance
- Improved sense of wellbeing due to better physical health and social interactions
- Helps reduce the risk of falls
Who is eligible:
- People who are living at home who are experiencing some physical decline due to ageing or chronic illness
- Participants must be able to engage with others in the group and follow the instructor’s lead without individual assistance
- Classes are designed for people over the age of 65 years
- HAPI is also open to those under 65 living with a disability or over 50 years for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander People
Eligibility includes persons receiving support through an NDIS plan and persons receiving a Support at Home package. Before commencing, your General Practitioner will need to provide medical clearance for your safety to participate.
