Strengthening Families is a free support program helping children, young people, and families build skills, safety and connection

What they do

The aim of Strengthening Families (formerly Family Services) is to work with children, young people and their family to build skills and networks to promote their child’s safety, stability and development. A family services practitioner may:

  • Visit a client in their home or community
  • Establish family needs and goals for support
  • Work with mothers, fathers and other carers to offer parenting advice and support
  • Assist with building and maintaining family relationships and connection
  • Build on, or develop connection to culture
  • Provide information, support and connections to other professional services, community groups and programs

Strengthening Families is a FREE service available to parents of children up to 17 years of age and pregnant women. Strengthening Families welcomes people of any gender, sexuality, culture and ability.

What they offer

Supporting families through the full spectrum of challenges, from parenting and relationships to mental health, substance use, cultural connection, and the complex behaviours and conflicts that can arise at every stage of family life.

Strengthening Families can provide support with:

  • Parenting challenges
  • Relationship issues
  • Stress or coping as a parent
  • Understanding children’s behaviour
  • Adolescent issues
  • Family conflict and family violence
  • Mental health issues
  • Drug and alcohol issues
  • Community or cultural linkages

How to access this service

Strengthening Families can be accessed via The Orange Door (Referral and Intake).
