Phillip Island Community Hospital celebrates official opening

October 19, 2026

The Phillip Island community today celebrated the official opening of Phillip Island Community Hospital, marking a significant milestone for a facility that is already delivering care closer to home for residents.

The event recognised the advocacy, partnership and community support that helped make the new hospital a reality, along with the important role it now plays in improving access to healthcare for Phillip Island and surrounding communities.

Speaking at the event, Bayside Health Board Chair Prof the Hon. Martin Foley said the official opening was an opportunity to celebrate both the hospital and the community effort behind it.

“Today is an opportunity to celebrate a hospital that is already delivering real benefits for local residents, and to recognise the many community members, donors and advocates who helped make it possible,” Prof Foley said.

“This project reflects years of advocacy, collaboration and shared commitment from local people who believed Phillip Island deserved greater access to healthcare.”

Bayside Health Regional CEO Louise Sparkes said patients are receiving care at Phillip Island Community Hospital instead of travelling, whether for urgent care, dialysis, diagnostic imaging or specialist appointments.

“As our region continues to grow, this hospital provides a strong foundation for delivering more healthcare services to meet the community's future needs,” Ms Sparkes said.

Prof Foley acknowledged the advocacy and support of local community groups, including the Phillip Island Community Consultative Committee, the Phillip Island Medical and Health Action Group and the Phillip Island Health Hub Auxiliary, as well as the Victorian Government's investment in the hospital.

The official opening was also attended by Member for Bass Jordan Crugnale MP, Bayside Health Chief Executive Adam Horsburgh, staff, donors and representatives from organisations involved in the planning, construction and operation of the hospital.

The hospital provides a range of services including a 24-hour Urgent Care Centre, haemodialysis, day surgery, pathology and diagnostic imaging, reducing the need for many patients to travel to the mainland for treatment.

Specialist outpatient appointments, allied health services and Clinical Nurse Consultant clinics are also available.

Phillip Island Community Hospital is located at 50-56 Church Street, Cowes.
