The management of Women’s and Newborn Services at Sandringham Hospital will transfer from Monash Health to Bayside Health in the second half of 2026.
Management of Women’s & Newborn Services at Sandringham Hospital Moving to Bayside Health
Bayside Health was established on 1 January 2026, following the merger of Alfred Health, Peninsula Health, Bass Coast Health, Gippsland Southern Health and Kooweerup Regional Health Service. Bayside Health provides care to communities across metropolitan Melbourne, the Bayside suburbs, Frankston and the Mornington Peninsula through to the Bass Coast.
With Sandringham Hospital located within the Bayside Health catchment, this change allows us to deliver the same clinical leadership, expertise and integrated support to Women’s and Newborn Services that we already provide across all other services at Sandringham Hospital. The Bayside Health Peninsula team, who provide care for women and newborns at Peninsula University Hospital, will have clinical oversight of the service.
Women and families will continue to receive the same high-quality maternity and newborn care throughout and after the change. The same trusted staff will remain in place, ensuring continuity of care and a familiar, supportive environment.
Patients already registered to have their baby at Sandringham Hospital will continue their care as planned and without interruption.
The level of maternity and newborn care provided at Sandringham Hospital will also remain unchanged. From 1 July, more complex care for women living in the Bayside Health catchment will be provided at Peninsula University Hospital whilst Monash Health will remain the tertiary care provider.
Medical practitioners can continue to refer patients for gynaecology services at Sandringham Hospital, with no changes to referral pathways at this stage.
We look forward to welcoming the Maternity and Newborn Services team at Sandringham Hospital into Bayside Health, and to working together to deliver safe, high-quality care for women, babies and families across our growing community.
